Cookie Policy

Last updated: 2026-04-27

This page explains what cookies (and similar technologies) the Initiate IT website uses and what they're for. The short version: nothing controversial, and you can refuse the optional ones via the cookie banner.

What's a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser when you visit a website. It can be used to remember things, your theme preference, your cookie choices, an analytics session ID, for the next time you visit. Some cookies are set by this site (first-party); some are set by third parties whose tools are embedded into the site.

What this site uses

Essential

These are set without consent because the site needs them to function:

  • theme, local storage entry remembering your light/dark mode preference. Set by this site, never sent to anyone else.
  • cookie-consent, local storage entry remembering your cookie banner choice so the banner doesn't reappear.

Analytics (optional, only after consent)

  • Google Analytics 4 (_ga, _ga_*), anonymised page-view and session statistics so I can see what content people read and how they got here. IP anonymisation is enabled.
  • Microsoft Clarity (_clck, _clsk, CLID, ANONCHK), anonymised session replay and heatmap data, useful for understanding which parts of pages people actually engage with.

Both run only after you click "Accept all" on the cookie banner. Refusing them has no impact on the rest of the site, it just means I see fewer analytics signals about your visit.

Third-party widgets

  • Calendly, when the booking widget is loaded on the contact page, Calendly may set its own cookies. Calendly's own cookie policy applies to those.
  • OpenStreetMap, the embedded map on the contact page may set technical cookies. Refusing the cookie banner does not prevent the map from loading; if you'd rather not load it, don't open the contact page.

Changing your mind

You can re-set your cookie preferences at any time by clearing the cookie-consent entry from your browser's local storage (or all site data for initiateit.co.uk) and reloading the page, the banner will reappear.

Browser controls

All major browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Doing so may break some sites but won't break this one, the only essential cookies here are local storage entries that just save your own preferences back to you.
